Garbage Service BACKDOOR PICKUP is between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday. Waste collection is not done on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. It resumes a regular schedule thereafter. The days are not made up. Household garbage must be in containers or in bags not over 40 gallons or 40 pounds. Recyclables must be in the container furnished by GFL or in paper bags or corrugated cardboard boxes.
*PLEASE note that if your car is in the way of pickup, you must place your containers in front of your car because collectors will not take a chance on damaging your car in the collection process.
CURB PICKUP Tree and yard waste (BUT NEVER GARBAGE) must be put out by the curb in containers or bags not over 40 gallons or weighing 40 pounds. Trees, shrubs, brush trimmings and fencing MUST be bundled in lengths no greater than 4 feet with no branch diameter exceeding 3 inches. These restrictions are necessary to accommodate quick pick-up and to avoid damage to the equipment in the crushing process. In addition, bulky items are to be placed at the curb area. Items, such as the following will be picked up on EITHER day: appliances, furniture, carpet (up to one room, rolled up 4 feet wide and less than 50 pounds), and cardboard boxes flattened. Items containing freon may not be put out unless there is written proof the freon has been removed. Items that WILL NOT be picked up are: dirt, rocks, bricks, concrete, tires, batteries, motor oil, cooking oil, hazardous materials and waste from private contractors. *PLEASE help the collection crews be consistent with backdoor pickup by your being consistent in following the guidelines above. GFL can be contacted at 281-449-8500. Items that can be collected at the curb either pickup day are: mattresses, box springs, bicycles, toys, car seats, grills (no propane tanks), emptied helium tanks, televisions, sofas, chairs, tables.
The garbage collection service in Fosters Mill has always provided (as a village amenity) backdoor pickup which means the cans should be stored near the home including on the collection days. Additionally, the waste cans should not be visible from the street and reasonably concealed during the non-collection days. Complying with this practice enhances our property values by providing the neighborhood with a maintained appearance. NOTE: There were numerous trash can violation citations issued last year for the cans being even partially visible from the street. The trash can policing policy is being modified for 2026 to primarily target cans left near the street and those blatantly visible after pick up day. Homeowners storing their waste cans farthest away from the street beside their houses or on the driveways will be considered compliant. Fosters Mill has contracted with GFL “Green for Life Environmental Inc”. for both trash and recycling. Trash is picked up on Monday and Thursday, and recycling is picked up on Thursday both are backdoor services. Only heavy trash needs to be taken to the curb.
